Indonesian Party PKB Urges PDIP to Choose Coalition or Opposition

The National Awakening Party (PKB) has called on the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) to take a definitive stance on its political alignment. Jazilul Fawaid, Chairman of the PKB Faction in the Indonesian House of Representatives, urged PDIP not to remain in an ambiguous position, urging them to clearly choose between joining the current government coalition or acting as an opposition party.

Fawaid stated that PDIP's current indecisiveness is problematic, especially in light of recent events involving a PDIP cadre participating in a student demonstration. He emphasized that such situations underscore the necessity for clarity from the party led by Megawati Soekarnoputri. "If you want to be outside the government, please do so. But don't be ambiguous. That's what I mean," Fawaid said.

He stressed the importance of unity and solidarity among parties within the government coalition to effectively implement President Prabowo Subianto's promises and achieve development targets. Fawaid noted that governing parties have thus far respected differing opinions, making a clear position from PDIP even more crucial. He believes that PDIP's current role as a "balancing party" needs explicit definition.

Fawaid expressed that PKB would respect PDIP's decision more if it were clearly articulated, hoping there would be no discrepancy between the party's official stance and its actions on the ground. "A firm stance is certainly more appreciated than saying A but doing B," he concluded.
