Indonesian pharmaceutical industry embraces green operations

Indonesia's pharmaceutical sector is demonstrating a growing commitment to sustainable operations, integrating renewable energy sources and strengthening drug distribution systems that meet regulatory standards.

PT Anugerah Pharmindo Lestari (APL), a subsidiary of Zuellig Pharma, recently hosted officials from the Indonesian Food and Drug Authority (BPOM) at its National Distribution Center (NDC) in Cikarang. During the visit, BPOM inspected APL's drug distribution facilities, which comply with Good Distribution Practices (CDOB), and reviewed the implementation of its 2D barcode system, as mandated by BPOM. The BPOM delegation also observed APL's solar power plant, an initiative aimed at enhancing energy efficiency and reducing operational emissions.

Christophe Piganiol, President Director of APL, highlighted the necessity of collaboration between regulators and industry players to foster a reliable healthcare ecosystem. He stated that the company is committed to integrating sustainability principles into all aspects of its operations while expanding public access to healthcare services. APL is also focused on broadening access to innovative health products through its distribution, commercialization, and clinical trial support services. One such product is Tirzepatide, an innovative therapy for type 2 diabetes mellitus and obesity. BPOM plays a role in accelerating access to such therapies through expedited registration processes, ensuring products are available while maintaining standards for safety, quality, and clinical integrity.

Head of BPOM, Taruna Ikrar, affirmed that the synergy between regulators and the industry is crucial for guaranteeing that the public receives safe, efficacious, and high-quality health products.
