Indonesian police probe company-school ties after hundreds of weapons found

Authorities in Jakarta are delving into the collaboration between PT Lokta Karya Perbakin, a company with weapons import permits, and the HI school foundation after hundreds of weapons were found at a school in Pondok Pinang, Kebayoran Lama, South Jakarta. The investigation aims to clarify the relationship between the two entities and the circumstances surrounding the discovery.

As of Thursday, August 20, investigators had interviewed 13 witnesses. These included personnel from the South Jakarta Metro Police who were present at the initial discovery, representatives from the HI school foundation, and two employees from PT Lokta Karya Perbakin. Among those questioned were the chairman of the HI foundation's board for the 2025-2026 period, the President Director of PT Lokta Karya Perbakin, and an individual who provided initial information about the weapons.

The investigation is still focusing on the origin of ownership, possession, permits, and recommendations for the storage of these items.

Police are also examining claims that the weapons were intended for a shooting extracurricular activity at the school. The President Director of PT Lokta Karya Perbakin had stated the weapons were for a shooting club. Investigators are reviewing documents related to a cooperation agreement (PKS) to determine if this activity was ever implemented. The focus remains on the origin, ownership, permits, and storage regulations for the hundreds of items found.

Previously, hundreds of weapons, including 995 airsoft guns and a Franchi SPAS-15 shotgun, were discovered at the private school's foundation. The presence of the airsoft guns reportedly stemmed from a cooperation agreement between the Harapan Ibu Foundation and PT Lokta Karya Perbakin for air rifle shooting sports. The shotgun was identified as belonging to an individual with the initials DS, a director at PT Lokta Karya Perbakin, who has since passed away.

This is still being investigated. Documents were submitted regarding the implementation, stating there was an extracurricular activity. Investigators are still examining whether this is in accordance with the PKS that was signed, implemented, or not yet implemented.
