Indonesian Police Seize $14.4 Billion in Assets in Coal Corruption Case

Indonesian police have seized property assets valued at approximately $14.4 billion as part of an investigation into alleged corruption in coal procurement. The assets, including land and buildings scattered across Medan, Bekasi, Bogor, Samarinda, and Sidoarjo, are being recovered to offset state financial losses.

The investigation centers on alleged corruption in the provision of invoice financing facilities by PT Perusahaan Pengelola Aset (Persero) to PT Bintang Abadi Sampurna (PT BAS) for PT PLN Batubara's coal procurement projects between 2019 and 2020. Investigators have identified three suspects in the case.

Two suspects, identified as IT, an Investment Manager at PT Perusahaan Pengelola Aset, and FSN, Head of Operations at PT Bintang Abadi Sampurna, have been detained. A third suspect, FH, the Director of PT BAS, is currently serving a sentence in another case and was not taken into custody. The alleged corruption has resulted in state financial losses estimated at $38.9 billion, according to an investigative report by the Supreme Audit Agency (BPK RI).
