Indonesian Police Target 1,500 Food Kitchens in 2026 to Boost Food Security

The Indonesian National Police are intensifying their support for the government's food security program by expanding Nutritional Fulfillment Service Units (SPPG), also known as MBG kitchens, and accelerating corn cultivation initiatives. Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo stated that the institution will focus on building 1,500 new MBG kitchens throughout 2026.

Prabowo highlighted that the police are working with state-owned bank associations to facilitate farmers' access to People's Business Credit (KUR) financing. They are also actively promoting corn cultivation, identifying a potential planting area of 1.37 million hectares. According to police reports, corn harvests supported by the program reached 5.7 million tons between 2025 and the second quarter of 2026. The initiative also includes supporting garlic cultivation in West Nusa Tenggara, which has yielded 18,960 tons from 948 hectares.

As of June 2026, 1,415 SPPGs have been established, with 828 already operational, 227 in preparation, and 360 under construction, including facilities in underdeveloped regions. These kitchens are projected to serve 3.5 million beneficiaries and create 70,700 jobs. To ensure food quality and safety, the program has trained 305 chefs and compiled a cookbook featuring 80 diverse menus.

Furthermore, police-operated SPPGs have secured numerous certifications, including 348 sanitation certificates, 146 halal product assurance certificates, and 285 water laboratory test certificates. These efforts underscore the police institution's commitment to bolstering national food and energy self-sufficiency, as directed by the President.
