Indonesian Politician Rachmat Gobel Laid to Rest with Military Honors

Saan Mustofa, the Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives, presided over the military funeral ceremony for the late politician Rachmat Gobel. The service was held at the Kalibata National Heroes Cemetery in Jakarta on Friday, July 10, 2026.

Rachmat Gobel, a prominent figure in Indonesian politics, was born on September 3, 1962. During his career, he served as the Minister of Trade from 2014 to 2015 and held the position of Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives from 2019 to 2024. He was also awarded the Bintang Mahaputera Adipradana.

Gobel passed away at RS Brawijaya Tebet on Friday, July 10, 2026, at 3:20 AM WIB, due to illness. The funeral procession included military honors, with soldiers from the Greater Jakarta Military Command performing their duties. A moment of silence was observed before the body was lowered into the grave, accompanied by the playing of the Indonesian national anthem and a three-gun salute.

During the ceremony, Saan Mustofa delivered a speech, emphasizing Gobel's dedication to the nation. He expressed hope that Gobel's path of service would serve as an example for others and that his soul would find peace. The funeral was attended by various dignitaries, including former President Jusuf Kalla, who also paid his respects by laying a wreath.
