Indonesian Public Policy Group Launches Professional Roadmap

The Public Policy & Government Affairs (PPGA) profession in Indonesia is taking a significant step toward professionalization with the launch of "The Indonesia PPGA Playbook." Developed by the Indonesia Public Policy & Government Affairs (IPPGA) Group, this initiative aims to create a structured roadmap for practitioners.

The playbook serves as a foundational document, mapping the knowledge, skills, and working methods required for PPGA professionals. It addresses the growing need for a clear reference point in a field that has evolved rapidly but lacked a standardized framework. The guide is divided into nine chapters, supplemented by operational appendices, and delves into understanding public policy dynamics, political landscapes, and business interests within Indonesia's complex environment.

This profession has for too long been about practicality without a map. We do not want to build it alone. We are open to collaborating with various stakeholders, especially universities, the government, and the practitioners themselves, so that the PPGA profession can develop more strongly in Indonesia.

Arief Budiman, a PPGA practitioner with over two decades of experience, highlighted the necessity of a collaborative approach. He stressed that strengthening the profession cannot be a solitary effort, calling for the involvement of universities, government bodies, and industry practitioners. "This profession has for too long been about practicality without a map. We do not want to build it alone. We are open to collaborating with various stakeholders, especially universities, the government, and the practitioners themselves, so that the PPGA profession can develop more strongly in Indonesia," Arief stated.

Budiman further emphasized the crucial role of academia in building a strong theoretical foundation and preparing the next generation of PPGA professionals. Universities, he believes, are the most strategic venue for introducing the profession to younger individuals. The playbook itself outlines the PPGA function through five interconnected pillars: profit, certainty, security, sustainability, and stability, illustrating the profession's broad impact on business continuity and the broader economic climate.
