Indonesian Rail Travel Surges Over 43,000 During Independence Day Holiday

Madiun, Indonesia – Train travel surged across the Madiun region during the long holiday celebrating Indonesia's 81st Independence Day. PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) Daop 7 Madiun reported that 42,996 passengers traveled through its stations from August 14 to 18, 2026.

The significant increase in mobility highlights the importance of rail transport for national holidays. KAI Daop 7 Madiun operated an average of 62 long-distance and 10 local train services daily to meet demand. This ensured connectivity for citizens traveling for leisure, visiting family, or commuting between cities.

The holiday period not only saw local residents departing but also welcomed visitors to Madiun and surrounding areas. The near-equal balance between departing and arriving passengers, with a difference of only 606, indicates robust two-way travel. This suggests trains remain a primary mode of transport for mass movement during peak travel times, valued for their schedule reliability and capacity.

Beyond facilitating travel, the influx of passengers is anticipated to stimulate local economies.
