Indonesian Scouts' highest honor can grant entry into military, police without tests

Achieving the highest scouting honor in Indonesia, known as Pramuka Garuda, can now serve as a direct pathway into the nation's military and police forces without requiring traditional entrance exams. Budi Waseso, the head of the National Scout Movement (Kwarnas), announced that holders of the Pramuka Garuda certificate are eligible for selection processes in the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) and the Indonesian National Police (Polri).

This initiative stems from a collaboration between Kwarnas and these security institutions, along with several universities. The aim is to encourage greater engagement among young Indonesians in scouting activities. "Every Pramuka Garuda, those from the Penegak level who meet the requirements, if they want to become police officers, can do so directly without a test. It's the same for the TNI, including universities, and this is already in progress," Waseso stated.

The recruitment mechanism through the Pramuka Garuda jalur has been refined, with updated assessment systems to align with the regulations of each respective institution. The Pramuka Garuda designation is awarded to young scouts who have attained the highest level of skill and recognition within their specific age group, which includes Siaga Garuda, Penggalang Garuda, Penegak Garuda, and Pandega Garuda.

To earn the Pramuka Garuda title, scouts must meet stringent criteria. For instance, a Pramuka Siaga Garuda must complete the 'Siaga Tata' level of general skill requirements, undergo at least two months of practice post-induction, and possess at least four specific skill badges from various fields. They must also present at least three handicraft projects, have participated in district-level Siaga gatherings, and attended a one-day camp (Persari). Additionally, proficiency in computer operation is required.

Similar rigorous standards apply to higher levels. A Pramuka Penggalang Garuda, for example, must complete the 'Penggalang Terap' general skill requirements, practice for at least two months, and earn at least five specific skill badges, including two from the 'Utama' (primary) category and three others. These requirements underscore the program's commitment to developing well-rounded and capable young individuals.
