Indonesian Task Force Investigates Murder of Officer in Papua

The Damai Cartenz Task Force, in collaboration with the Yahukimo Resort Police and Brimob Corps, is investigating the killing of Brigadir Fredi Lukas Awes. Awes, a member of the task force, was fatally attacked while on patrol in Yahukimo Regency, Papua Pegunungan, on the evening of Monday, July 20, 2026. He was discovered with multiple stab wounds.

Chief Inspector General Faizal Ramadhani, head of the Damai Cartenz Operation, expressed deep condolences for Awes' death. He assured that the investigation would be conducted professionally and in accordance with applicable laws. Ramadhani emphasized that all investigative steps are being taken to uncover the perpetrators and ensure the security and stability of the region.

Brigadir Awes was found deceased around 11:30 PM WIT in the Halabok Paradiso Belakang area of Dekai District. His body was transported to the Dekai Regional General Hospital for examination before being flown to Jayapura. Police have secured the crime scene, collected evidence, and are interviewing witnesses. Authorities suspect unknown individuals (OTK) are responsible for the attack.
