Indonesian Ulema Council welcomes US-Iran peace deal, hopes for end to Israeli aggression

The Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) has expressed its approval of the recent peace agreement reached between the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran. The council views this development as a significant positive step that could pave the way for greater stability in the Middle East and contribute to more sustainable world peace.

He emphasized that efforts prioritizing dialogue, diplomacy, respect for national sovereignty, and peaceful dispute resolution are crucial and should be continuously strengthened by the international community. Sudarnoto expressed a strong hope that the US-Iran accord will help de-escalate tensions and prevent further conflict escalation. He specifically highlighted the potential for the agreement to lead to the cessation of Israeli aggression against the people of Gaza and Palestine. "I very much hope this can end tensions, prevent conflict escalation, and open the way for regional security stability and more sustainable world peace, including the cessation of Zionist Israeli crimes against the people of Gaza and Palestine as a whole," he added.

The MUI believes that peace aligns with universal values, Islamic teachings, humanitarian ideals, and the Indonesian constitution. The council also pointed out several strategic impacts of the US-Iran conflict's resolution. These include preventing the spread of war, safeguarding international shipping lanes in the Strait of Hormuz, and averting surges in global oil and energy prices. Furthermore, regional stability is expected to positively influence the global economy, as disruptions in energy supply and international trade have the potential to trigger inflation and increase the cost of essential goods worldwide, particularly in developing nations.
