Indramayu farmers march to Jakarta demanding fulfillment of government promises

Hundreds of farmers from Indramayu, Indonesia, have embarked on a long march to Jakarta, demanding that the Ministry of Agriculture fulfill its unkept promises. The protest, organized by the Indramayu Farmers Union (STI), began from the Karangsinom area and is proceeding along the Pantura route towards the capital.

The farmers are specifically calling for the government to honor two key pledges made previously. The first concerns the promised construction of two underground water irrigation networks (JIAT). The second relates to a proposal for agricultural machinery assistance that the STI had submitted to the Ministry of Agriculture.

Casudi, the Chairman of the STI, stated that the march signifies the farmers' seriousness in pursuing their rights. He emphasized their commitment to continue the struggle until concrete assurances are provided. The farmers' action underscores the challenges faced by agricultural communities in securing essential resources and government support.
