INEC displays Tinubu, Shettima credentials for 2027 elections

Nigeria's Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has begun the public display of personal particulars and academic credentials for presidential candidates vying in the 2027 general election. The exercise prominently features documents submitted by the incumbent President Bola Tinubu and his running mate, Vice President Kashim Shettima.

Tinubu's submitted Form EC9 reveals a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Chicago State University, awarded "with honours" in June 1979. His National Youth Service Corps discharge documents indicate service in Oyo State from December 1982 to November 1983. His listed work history includes roles at Mobil Nigeria Limited, the Lagos State Government, and the Federal Government of Nigeria, where he has served since 2023.

The form notes "0000" for primary and secondary school attendance, with only his university qualification specified. Tinubu's personal details list his birth date as March 29, 1952, making him 74 years old, with his birthplace as Lagos and occupation as "politician."

Vice President Shettima's educational background is also detailed, starting from Lamisula I Primary School (1972-1978) and Government Secondary School, Potiskum, where he obtained his West African Examinations Council results in June 1983. He holds a Second Class Upper Division degree in Agriculture from the University of Maiduguri (1989) and a Master of Science in Agricultural Economics from the University of Ibadan. His NYSC service ran from October 1989 to October 1990.

This public display is a statutory requirement under Section 29(3) of the Electoral Act, 2026, mandating INEC to publish candidates' particulars within 21 days of receipt. Form EC9 contains the credentials, personal particulars, and affidavits submitted by all candidates.
