The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced it is over 87% prepared for the upcoming Enugu North Senatorial District by-election in Enugu State, scheduled for June 20. Dr. Chukwuemeka Chukwu, INEC's Resident Electoral Commissioner in Enugu State, shared the update in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria.

According to Chukwu, non-sensitive electoral materials have been sorted and are ready for distribution to the commission's six local government area offices within the senatorial district. These materials are expected to be moved to INEC's Registration Area Centres by Thursday, June 4. Additionally, all Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) devices have been configured and fully charged to ensure a smooth electoral process.

INEC has also concluded critical stakeholder engagements at the state, senatorial, and local government levels. These meetings saw significant participation, with officials addressing relevant questions from stakeholders. Four political parties are set to field candidates for the by-election, pending the official approval of their primary election reports by INEC headquarters.

The commission is scheduled to conduct training for its officials on Friday. In the days leading up to the election, INEC will collaborate with the police and other security agencies to guarantee the safety of officials, ad-hoc staff, election materials, and voters.

We are sending the non-sensitive materials today (June 3) to our council area offices involved and by Thursday (June 4), the non-sensitive materials will be further moved to INECโ€™s Registration Area Centres (RACs).
