Influencer Questions Mayoral Candidate on Aide's Alleged AI Deepfake of President's Voice

Internet personality "Four Cat" (Siyaomao) has publicly questioned Lee Chuan-hsiung, a candidate for New Taipei City mayor and a key figure in the Kuomintang's (KMT) new media department, regarding the alleged actions of his team member, Wei Chun-yu.

Wei Chun-yu, formerly the director of the KMT's new media department, is reportedly under police investigation for allegedly using artificial intelligence to create a deepfake of Taiwan's head of state's voice. The incident involved a promotional video for a rally, where Wei is accused of fabricating President Lai Ching-te's voice. This action has drawn criticism from the KMT, who accuse the police of political targeting.

"Four Cat" posted on Facebook that Wei Chun-yu is one of the "four pillars" of Lee Chuan-hsiung's campaign team. The influencer directly asked Lee Chuan-hsiung whether he instructed Wei Chun-yu to use AI to deepfake the head of state's voice. If not, "Four Cat" questioned why Lee Chuan-hsiung has not publicly condemned the act.

The influencer further alleged that Lee Chuan-hsiung "sends his underlings to beat people up, and then denies responsibility." "Four Cat" also brought up other controversies involving Lee Chuan-hsiung's family and finances, questioning the source of his income and housing. The post concluded by stating that "Four Cat" is now using Lee Chuan-hsiung's own logic to criticize him.
