Injured rhea, raised by resident, rescued in Argentina

A rhea, found injured in Moreno, Argentina, has been rescued and transferred to the La Plata Biopark. The bird had been living with a local resident who raised it from a chick after finding it abandoned.

According to reports from a local newspaper, the rhea was acquired by the resident who cared for it on their property. As the bird grew, it eventually sustained an apparent injury. Following concerns about its health, authorities were alerted, leading to the coordinated effort involving Park Rangers, the Wildlife Department of the Province of Buenos Aires, and the La Plata Biopark.

Specialists at the Biopark are now assessing the rhea's condition to determine if it can be safely released back into its natural environment. A video shared on Facebook shows the rhea being moved into a wooden enclosure and then released into a green space, where it appeared to walk without difficulty. The ultimate goal is the bird's successful reintegration into the wild after receiving necessary veterinary care and rehabilitation.
