Inter Miami names Kily González as new coach amid slump

Inter Miami has officially named Cristian "Kily" González as its new head coach, signaling a change in leadership as the team grapples with a significant slump in performance. González, an Argentine football veteran, steps in to replace his compatriot Angel Guillermo Hoyos, whose tenure was marked by a sharp decline in results.

The club announced the signing on Thursday, with González set to take the reins once he secures the necessary work permits. Until then, Hoyos will continue to manage the team, though his future beyond that remains unclear. Hoyos initially took over in April following the departure of Javier Mascherano, who led Inter Miami to their last MLS Cup title before resigning for personal reasons.

While Hoyos, previously the club's sporting director, started with a promising streak of victories, the team's performance has deteriorated significantly in recent weeks. Inter Miami has now gone five consecutive matches without a win, a stark contrast to their earlier success. González, who previously managed Platense until October 2025, brings a wealth of experience from his playing days with clubs like Real Zaragoza, Valencia, and Inter Milan.
