Interactive 'Mermaid' Exhibit to Launch Tonight at Seoul's Cheonggyecheon Stream

Seoul's Cheonggyecheon Stream is set to transform into an underwater fantasy world with the launch of 'The Night the Mermaid Swims,' a new interactive media art exhibit. This latest addition to the ongoing 'Cheonggye Soul Ocean' project allows visitors to become creators, designing their own unique mermaid characters.

These personalized mermaids will then be brought to life as animations, swimming across the surface of the stream's water. The experience is accessible to everyone, with participants able to design their mermaids by scanning a QR code and accessing a website. The exhibit aims to offer a novel nighttime attraction, blending art with public space.

'Cheonggye Soul Ocean' has been running since June, showcasing media art inspired by the stream's seasons, ecology, and even historical Korean art from the Ganseong Cultural Foundation. The project continually adds new content monthly to provide fresh experiences for both residents and tourists.

To celebrate the launch of 'The Night the Mermaid Swims,' special events are scheduled from August 15 to August 30. Participants who share their mermaid designs on social media can win specially produced keycaps, while those who engage in the design process can receive other merchandise like coasters and tattoo stickers. The exhibition is open daily until December 31, with operating hours varying by month.
