Interfaith Council seeks transparent probe into death of nurse Mary Habila

The Interfaith Youth Council of Nigeria (IYCN) has called for an independent and transparent investigation into the death of nurse Mary Habila. The council urged the public to avoid speculation while inquiries are ongoing, cautioning against premature conclusions and inflammatory comments that could undermine the investigation's integrity.

In a statement signed by its leader, Comrade Moses S. Moses, the IYCN demanded a thorough and professional probe based solely on evidence, free from political interference. The council noted that Habila had worked for the Minister of Works for about three years and maintained a cordial relationship, but stressed this should not influence the investigation's outcome.

The group appealed to political leaders, media organizations, and civil society groups to exercise restraint and allow relevant authorities to conduct their investigations without interference. "In any society governed by the rule of law, criminal responsibility can only be determined through a credible investigation," the council stated, emphasizing that justice must be pursued in line with due process. The IYCN extended condolences to Habila's family and urged Nigerians to remain calm and allow the legal process to unfold.
