Interior Minister Inspects Bukit Duri Home Renovation Program, Urges Local Government Support

Interior Minister Muhammad Tito Karnavian visited a home renovation project in Bukit Duri, South Jakarta, on Saturday, calling for stronger local government support to accelerate the program.

Tito said the national initiative had renovated 400,000 homes since 2025. He described the figure as an achievement that had not occurred before and linked the program to President Prabowo Subianto’s effort to improve housing quality.

Mr. Prabowo has created a program to renovate 400,000 homes across Indonesia. That is extraordinary. It has never happened before.

Jakarta still has neighborhoods where homes need repairs, Tito said. He praised Housing and Settlement Areas Minister Maruarar Sirait for expanding the renovation program in the capital, where similar efforts had previously been limited.

Previously, people needed certificates and all sorts of documents. Now they do not. A statement from the village head is enough.

Tito urged local governments to prevent administrative requirements from delaying assistance for residents who meet the conditions. He said the Housing Ministry had eased the rules, including replacing the previous requirement for a land certificate with a statement from the local village head.

He asked local officials to support beneficiary identification and verification, and encouraged residents to cooperate with construction work in their neighborhoods. Tito said the impact would be especially visible if homes were repaired across an entire area, citing a possible renovation of 800 houses in one neighborhood. After speaking with residents, he inspected one recipient’s home.
