PAM Jaya Makes Water Free for Jakarta’s Istiqlal Mosque for One Year

PAM Jaya will provide piped drinking water to Jakarta’s Istiqlal Mosque free of charge for one year. The subsidy covers water use, tariffs, administrative fees and maintenance.

The agreement was marked by a memorandum of understanding signed by PAM Jaya and the Istiqlal Mosque Management Agency on Friday, in connection with National Customer Day. The arrangement can be extended if both sides agree.

PAM Jaya President Director Arief Nasrudin said the partnership would also educate the public about piped drinking-water services. “This cooperation with Istiqlal Mosque is one form of commitment, while also opening an educational space so that more people become familiar with and use piped drinking water,” he said in a statement.

Istiqlal Mosque will promote PAM Jaya’s services through information channels available on the mosque grounds. PAM Jaya said the water supplied would meet quality standards under Indonesia’s Health Ministry Regulation No. 2 of 2023, and that it would coordinate with mosque managers on educational materials and network maintenance information.

Religious Affairs Minister and Istiqlal Grand Imam Nasaruddin Umar welcomed the support, saying access to quality water was important for a mosque used daily by the public. He hoped the partnership would benefit worshippers and visitors. At the same event, PAM Jaya distributed 1,000 lunch packages after Friday prayers and recognized 1,000 household customers who had used its services from 2023 through 2026, consumed about 20 to 30 cubic meters monthly during 2026, and paid their bills without arrears through July 2026.
