Interior Ministry purchases 12 multi-role H160 and H145 helicopters via SAFE Program

Romania's Ministry of Internal Affairs (MAI) is significantly bolstering its aerial capabilities with the acquisition of 12 state-of-the-art helicopters. The purchase, funded through the European SAFE – Security Action for Europe program, includes seven H160 multi-role helicopters and five H145 models. This investment aims to strengthen the nation's capacity for aerial intervention, civil protection, and emergency response.

The H160 helicopters are versatile aircraft designed for a range of missions. Three will be allocated to public order and safety operations, while the remaining four will support civil protection efforts. These helicopters are noted for their multi-role capabilities, offering extended autonomy, significant transport capacity, and superior operational performance, making them suitable for complex interventions, including in disaster-affected areas.

The five H145 helicopters are primarily designated for medical and rescue services. They will enhance the fleet used for SMURD (Special Intervention Mobile Medical Service) operations, search and rescue missions, medical evacuations, and tactical operations. The Inspectorate General of Aviation (IGAv) of the MAI will operate these new aircraft, deploying them for a wide array of tasks supporting the public and managing emergencies.

In addition to the new helicopter fleet, the IGAv is investing in a modern flight simulation training center. This facility will be dedicated to the training, practice, and evaluation of pilots for both the S70M Black Hawk and the new H135 helicopters, ensuring a high standard of preparedness for aviation crews involved in critical missions. The center represents a significant step in maintaining and advancing the skills of Romania's aviation personnel.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs continues the process of modernization and development of its aeronautical capabilities by purchasing 12 state-of-the-art multi-role helicopters, namely 7 H160 aircraft and 5 H145 aircraft, intended to strengthen the national capacity for aerial intervention, civil protection, and emergency management, as well as for carrying out missions in the field of public order and safety.
