Investigation launched into ammunition parcel delivered to FirstBank MD

The Lagos State Police Command has launched an investigation into a suspicious parcel containing live ammunition that was delivered to the Managing Director of FirstBank, Oluwasegun Alebiosu. Commissioner of Police, CP Fatai Tijani, confirmed the investigation, stating that detectives are working to uncover the circumstances surrounding the delivery. The incident was reported on May 7, 2026, when Alebiosu discovered two rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition concealed within a package. The parcel was initially received by his security guard before being handed over to him. CP Tijani emphasized that the case is being treated with the seriousness it deserves. Sources within the bank suggest the delivery occurred shortly after the bank intensified internal reforms and efforts to recover outstanding loans. The parcel, reportedly delivered to Alebiosu's Ikoyi residence via a dispatch rider, was marked confidential with only the recipient's name and address, providing no sender information. The motive remains unclear, and police are exploring whether it was a threat or linked to criminal activity. No arrests have been made, but investigators are pursuing leads and conducting forensic and intelligence-driven operations. CP Tijani assured the public that updates would be provided as the investigation progresses.
