Investigation Opened into 25-Year-Old's Death; Mother Threatens Suicide

Authorities have opened an investigation into the death of a 25-year-old man who died by suicide at his home in Cosenza, Italy, while Carabinieri officers were conducting a search.

The family's lawyer, Osvaldo Rocca, stated that the police intervention's adequacy needs review. He noted the young man was visibly agitated, trembling, and crying, and had a previous suicide attempt. Rocca believes different precautions were necessary, such as alerting medical services or involving the man's mother to help calm him.

According to the lawyer, the deceased, identified as Mohamed Amin Bessioud, an Italian citizen of Tunisian origin, had recent legal troubles. He was under house arrest for minor drug dealing and substance use, and was participating in a recovery program. However, Rocca emphasized that Bessioud was not a hardened criminal but a troubled individual requiring support.

We are not talking about a hardened criminal profile but a problematic boy who needed support. We believe that the pressure and verbal methods of the intervention may have acted as a trigger in an already highly vulnerable subject.

Tragically, the man's mother, who witnessed the event, suffered a severe anxiety attack and threatened suicide herself. She was treated by emergency services and transferred to the hospital. She expressed her grief, stating, "You can't die like this, abandoned by the social system."
