IPHE Students Showcase Culinary Talent at Inclusive Gastronomy Fair

Talent and creativity were on full display at Parque Omar as students from the Panamanian Institute for Special Education (IPHE) participated in the institution's first Inclusive Gastronomy Fair. The event provided a platform for young individuals to move beyond the classroom and practically apply the skills they have acquired in their intermediate technical studies in Gastronomy and Hospitality.

Students from the eastern region of Chepo presented a Mexican-inspired menu, featuring a tres leches cake and a hibiscus drink, alongside nachos prepared with care. A delegation from Panama Oeste offered a fusion of local flavors with Italian cuisine, serving dishes such as pork-filled bollos preñados, coffee mousse, bomboloni, focaccia, and pasta prepared live. They also included traditional Panamanian chicheme and an Italian beverage, showcasing a diverse culinary range.

IPHE Director Karelia Sánchez Mundo emphasized that the fair was conceived to highlight the students' abilities and demonstrate their potential for both the workforce and social integration. "This is a training opportunity where students can graduate with basic competencies, and we wanted to take them out of the classroom to show the community, to show the country, that these are young people with skills, with potential, and that there are no barriers," Sánchez Mundo stated.

She further commented that societal barriers often pose greater limitations than the students themselves. The fair served not only as a tasting experience but also as a vital showcase for the students' talents, sending a powerful message of inclusion. It underscored the idea that opportunities are created when individual capabilities and potential are recognized and valued, fostering a more inclusive environment for all.
