IPN Biological Sciences director meets with Public Education Secretary over budget, board dissolution

Isaac Juan Luna Romero, director of the National Polytechnic Institute's (IPN) School of Biological Sciences (ENCB), reported on a productive working meeting with the Secretary of Public Education, Mario Delgado Carrillo. The discussion focused on key issues raised by the student community, who are currently on strike.

Luna Romero stated that the meeting facilitated progress on priorities for students, teachers, and staff. He anticipates that federal authorities will present a concise written proposal with concrete responses to the movement's demands this Wednesday. "There is a commitment from the secretary of public education to bring a more summarized document, very concrete, with the points of resolution for the community," he commented.

A central agreement involved creating a binding document to ensure no reprisals against students, teachers, or support staff involved in the movement. "It is to assure our students, our teachers, even PAE staff, that there will be no reprisals of any kind, zero reprisals," Luna Romero affirmed.

Another significant topic was the demand to dissolve the 'Corazón Guinda y Blanco' board, a primary student grievance. The director indicated that a signed document from the relevant authorities is sought to guarantee the dissolution process and to formalize a new agreement with the Politécnico Foundation.

Additionally, the meeting addressed recent administrative changes within IPN, including personnel shifts in human resources and finance departments, which Luna Romero believes signal a move toward a new administrative model. He also confirmed ongoing communication with the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit regarding ENCB's financial crisis, with at least two working sessions held to analyze budgetary needs and secure resources for laboratories, materials, and academic activities.
