Iran Accuses US of Revoking All Fan Tickets Ahead of 2026 World Cup

The Football Federation of the Islamic Republic of Iran (FFIRI) has accused host nation the United States of revoking all tickets designated for Iranian fans ahead of the 2026 World Cup. With the tournament set to begin in less than three days, FFIRI asserts that the US is actively obstructing the presence of Iranian supporters at their national team's matches.

FFIRI stated in a recent announcement that the US has erected numerous administrative barriers for the Iranian team. These include denying visas to some support staff, occurring amidst ongoing political tensions between the two nations. The federation views the ticket revocation as another instance of the US hindering Iranian fans from supporting their team.

Under FIFA regulations, Iran is allocated 8% of the tickets for each of its matches, which are then distributed to fans through official channels. FFIRI had begun selling tickets for the group stage matches against New Zealand on June 16, Belgium on June 22, and Egypt on June 27. However, after receiving their quota, FFIRI is now unable to provide any tickets to fans who had completed the necessary procedures.

FFIRI declared that the US's "sudden move" prevents them from supplying even a single ticket to their supporters. The federation contends that this action contravenes the spirit of international tournaments and the fundamental principle of equality among participating nations.
