Iran again attacks U.S. targets in the Middle East

Iran has launched another round of attacks against U.S. military positions in the Middle East, describing the strikes as retaliation for American bombing raids on Iranian targets.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said it used drones and missiles against U.S. facilities in Jordan, Bahrain, Kuwait and Iraq. IRGC spokesman Ebrahim Zolfaghari claimed the attacks caused “serious damage to the infrastructure, facilities, weapons and equipment” at U.S. bases and left “a significant number” of people dead or wounded. He did not provide details to support those claims.

Zolfaghari said Iran would respond to U.S. attacks in a “severe and devastating” manner. He also warned countries cooperating with Washington that they “must accept the consequences” of their actions.

The first Iranian strike targeted Camp Titin, a U.S. Marine base in Jordan, with heavy ballistic missiles. Jordan’s military said it intercepted 10 missiles. Three others hit areas “far from populated centers” and caused no casualties, according to a statement. Iran later used drones against U.S. facilities in Bahrain and said it had launched missiles and drones at military installations near Erbil in Iraq.

Kuwait’s military said its air defenses were intercepting drones from Iran. “Kuwaiti air defenses are confronting hostile drone attacks as a result of Iran’s condemnable aggression,” it said in a post on X.

The escalation followed U.S. strikes on Tuesday, the second exchange of attacks in less than 48 hours after a month without reported cross-border aggression. Washington said it had hit “Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps targets” and cited efforts to counter Iranian “attempts at aggression” against commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and U.S. service members stationed in the region.

Iran’s Revolutionary Guard said the earlier U.S. bombing struck a residential home in Sirik, near the Strait of Hormuz, killing several people and injuring at least 50. It said an earlier attack on Sunday targeted Larak island, where Washington claimed Iran was preparing rockets loaded with sea mines for the Strait of Hormuz. Two people were killed in that attack, according to the account.
