Iran alleges World Cup ticket denial for fans, citing political interference

The Iranian Football Federation (FFIRI) has denounced the withholding of its ticket allocation for the upcoming World Cup, stating it prevents Iranian fans who had made travel arrangements from attending their national team's matches. The federation expressed serious doubts about "political interference" in the organization of the global football event.

This fact raises serious doubts about the interference of considerations unrelated to sport and of a political nature in the organization of the biggest football event in the world.

"This occurs despite many Iranian football fans, trusting the officially announced process, having already made the necessary preparations to attend the matches," the FFIRI said in a statement. Typically, each participating federation receives 8% of the tickets for their matches to distribute among their fans.

Iran is set to play its first two Group G matches in Los Angeles against New Zealand on June 15 and Belgium on June 21, followed by a match against Egypt in Seattle on June 26. The FFIRI stated that depriving Iranian fans of their legitimate ticket allocation goes against the spirit of international competitions and the principle of equality among participating nations.

While the FFIRI did not identify who made the decision to withhold the tickets, they appealed to FIFA, the sport's governing body, to adhere to principles of neutrality and fairness. Iran's participation has been marked by uncertainty, including concerns over U.S. visas for players and staff, though visas were eventually granted for the team to compete.
