Iran and US delegations arrive in Bürgenstock for negotiation kickoff

Delegations from the United States and Iran have arrived at the Bürgenstock mountain resort in Switzerland for crucial negotiations aimed at ending a war. The talks are centered on implementing a 14-point memorandum that was signed on Wednesday.

Leading the U.S. delegation is Vice President JD Vance, accompanied by his wife, special envoy Steve Witkoff, and President Donald Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner. The Iranian delegation is headed by chief negotiator Mohamed Baqer Qalibaf and also includes Foreign Minister Abas Araghchi. The Iranian team arrived in Zurich on Saturday evening, while Vance's plane landed Sunday morning in Emmen, near Lucerne.

Mediating countries Qatar and Pakistan are also present. Pakistan's delegation is led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Army Staff, Field Marshal Asim Munir. The resort, located on the shores of Lake Lucerne, is closed to traffic and under heavy security.

Bilateral meetings have already begun, with Vice President Vance meeting the Pakistani Prime Minister on Sunday morning. The main negotiations are scheduled to commence Sunday, after being postponed on Friday at Iran's request in protest of Israeli bombings in southern Lebanon. According to the Swiss Foreign Ministry, the goal is to finalize the agreement within 60 days, addressing the Iranian nuclear program and the lifting of sanctions.
