Iran appoints former IRGC chief Mohsen Rezaee as representative to top security body

Iran's Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has appointed former Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) chief Mohsen Rezaee as his representative to the Supreme National Security Council (SNSC). Rezaee, a former military commander during the Iran-Iraq war, takes over the position from Mohammad Baqer Zolghadr.

An announcement on X, attributed to Khamenei, cited Rezaee's "valuable experience" in making the appointment. Zolghadr was subsequently named Khamenei's Political Advisor, with the Supreme Leader praising his "round-the-clock efforts."

Dr Mohsen Rezaee, considering your valuable experience, I am hereby appointing you, who were one of the first commanders in the triumphant 8-Year Sacred Defence, to be my representative in the Supreme National Security Council.

The reshuffling comes amid reports from Israeli media suggesting Khamenei is in "extremely critical condition." Iranian state broadcaster Press TV reported that President Masoud Pezeshkian met with Khamenei to discuss military and economic matters, including "people's livelihood needs" and the "US-Israeli war of aggression against Iran."
