Iran Attacks U.S. Targets in Kuwait Despite Trump’s Threats

Iran attacked U.S. military targets in Kuwait on Thursday, ignoring threats from President Donald Trump and widening the latest escalation in the Gulf.

Kuwait’s military said it intercepted a missile and drone attack originating from Iran. Tehran said it had targeted Ahmad al Jaber air base on Kuwaiti territory with missiles and drones. Kuwait described the strikes as “a direct threat to its security and stability” and “a serious violation of the norms of international law.”

Iran’s military also said it had attacked Al Minhad air base in the United Arab Emirates, although the UAE did not report any attack of that kind. The claims came after Iran vowed to make the U.S. enemy “fall to pieces” in retaliation for strikes on Iranian territory, including an attack that hit a wedding.

Tehran said those bombings killed 19 people, including seven members of the armed forces and civilians. Four victims were attending a wedding in Sirik district in southeastern Iran, where state media reported that about 70 people were wounded.

Oil markets reacted to the renewed fighting. Shortly after 10 a.m. GMT, Brent crude for November delivery was up 1.24% at $96.82 a barrel, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate for October delivery rose 1.36% to $92.25.

Iranian officials said the country would follow a “new strategy” in the war that the United States and Israel began against Iran in late February. Mohsen Rezai, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, wrote on X that the strategy would target the battlefield, diplomacy and the confrontation of the economic blockade. Parliament speaker and chief negotiator Mohamad Baqer Qalibaf called the United States “Satan” after the wedding attack and referred to an earlier bombing of a school in Minab, which Tehran said killed 155 people, including 120 children.

The U.S. Central Command said its forces “never attack civilians, unlike the Revolutionary Guards,” without directly addressing the reported strike on the wedding ceremony. Images showing damage at the wedding venue have circulated widely in Iran.
