Iran Strikes U.S. Military Base in Jordan With Ballistic Missiles in New Retaliatory Escalation

Iran’s Revolutionary Guard says it struck a U.S. military base in Jordan with heavy ballistic missiles, opening another chapter in a cycle of retaliation that resumed over the past 48 hours.

The Iranian force said the attack took place between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning and targeted Camp Titin, described as a tactical base for the U.S. Marine Corps on Jordanian territory. The Revolutionary Guard claimed it destroyed infrastructure inside the facility.

Washington had launched bombings against Iranian territory hours earlier. U.S. Defense Department spokespeople said those operations targeted strategic installations belonging to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. They said the strikes aimed to counter Iranian attempts to threaten commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and U.S. military personnel deployed in the region.

Iranian military spokespeople said American missiles hit a residential area in Sirik, a coastal town near the Strait of Hormuz, killing several people and injuring at least 50 others. They also said U.S. attacks on Sunday against Larak Island killed two people.

The latest exchanges followed nearly a month of relative calm. The extent of the damage at Camp Titin and its operational consequences have not been independently confirmed by U.S. or Jordanian authorities. Jordanian air defenses had intercepted a similar missile attack two days earlier.
