Iran 'Begging' for Deal, Violates Terms, Blinken Warns Houthis of 'Destruction'

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken asserted that Iran is actively seeking a deal but consistently reneges on its commitments. Speaking during a meeting of ASEAN foreign ministers in the Philippines, Blinken indicated that Iran is "begging" for an agreement. He criticized Tehran's negotiating tactics, stating that while Iran constantly reaches out expressing a desire for a deal, it either changes its mind or violates terms once an agreement is close to being finalized.

Blinken further warned Yemen's Houthi rebels against allowing Iran to drag them further into the regional conflict. He noted that the Houthis, who had been inactive for a considerable period, have recently become involved again, suggesting Iran orchestrated their re-engagement, possibly with Saudi Arabia. Blinken cautioned that this involvement could lead to the "destruction" of the Houthi movement, drawing parallels to Iran's past "tricks."
