Iran claims ships involved in accident in Strait of Hormuz

Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) accused four ships of violating navigation rules and attempting to leave the Strait of Hormuz via an unsafe route. The IRGC stated that two of the vessels were involved in an accident and stopped, while the other two aborted their journeys.

The IRGC claimed the ships disabled their navigation systems and ignored official warnings. They also alleged that the vessels had the support of "American terrorists" and were trying to disrupt the situation. Iran insists that all ships carrying oil, gas, or fertilizer must obtain permission and adhere to designated shipping lanes, warning that those using other routes risk accidents.

This incident occurs amid heightened tensions between Iran and the United States over control of the strategic waterway. Iran has maintained it has authority over the Strait of Hormuz since signing a memorandum of understanding with Washington in mid-June. The country emphasizes that all vessels must use shipping lanes closer to its coast, rather than those near Oman, and has previously taken action against ships allegedly failing to comply.
