Iran Denounces US Blockade as War Crime and Ceasefire Violation

Tehran, Iran – The Islamic Republic of Iran unequivocally condemns the United States' naval blockade against our nation, denouncing it as a flagrant violation of international law and a grave transgression against the spirit of any ceasefire. Esmaeil Baqaei, our Foreign Ministry spokesperson, articulated this strong stance, highlighting that such actions are not only illegal but criminal in nature.

Mr. Baqaei rightly pointed out that this blockade directly contravenes fundamental principles of international law, including Article 2(4) of the UN Charter. Furthermore, it aligns with the definition of aggression as outlined in UN General Assembly Resolution 3314 (1974), which explicitly includes the blockade of ports or coasts. The assertion that this action constitutes a war crime and a crime against humanity underscores the severity of the US's hostile policy, which deliberately inflicts collective punishment upon our innocent citizens.

The so-called blockade by the United States against Iranian ports or coastlines is not only a violation of the ceasefire mediated by Pakistan but also an illegal and criminal act. It violates Article 2(4) of the UN Charter; as well as being an act of aggression according to Article 3(c) of UN General Assembly Resolution 3314 (1974), which explicitly includes the blockade of a country's ports or coasts as a form of such an act.

From our perspective here in Tehran, this blockade represents a continuation of hostile policies aimed at crippling our economy and harming our people. While Western media may frame such actions through a lens of geopolitical strategy, we see them as direct attacks on our sovereignty and the well-being of every Iranian. The international community must recognize these actions for what they are: illegal, immoral, and detrimental to global peace and stability. Iran stands firm in its condemnation and will continue to advocate for its rights under international law.
