Iran mocks US aircraft carrier's departure as 'end of power show' for a holiday

Iran has sarcastically dismissed the departure of a U.S. aircraft carrier from the region as the conclusion of a "show of force" and the beginning of a holiday for its crew.

Nasser Kanaani, spokesperson for Iran's Foreign Ministry, commented on the USS Abraham Lincoln's withdrawal, stating that after more than 200 days deployed in the region without a single port visit, the carrier was now heading to Thailand. He framed the deployment ironically, saying, "Mission: Show of force. Current mission: Vacation... I'm tired boss."

The U.S. Navy had announced that the USS Abraham Lincoln was returning home after a long deployment. This departure followed reports and discussions about the psychological state of the crew after their extended mission. The U.S. Department of Defense had decided to send the USS George Washington to replace the Lincoln in the Middle East.

According to NBC News, a U.S. official confirmed on August 21 that the USS Abraham Lincoln was "en route home following its extended deployment." Meanwhile, the USS George Washington was reported to have reached the Middle East on August 20, intended to take over the Lincoln's duties.

Thai officials had also announced that the USS Abraham Lincoln would make a stop in Thailand after completing its Middle East mission. The Iranian commentary highlights the ongoing geopolitical tensions and the symbolic language used by both sides in the region.
