Iran Reports US Missile Attack on Tanker Near Kharg Island After Explosions Heard

Explosions heard near Iran’s Kharg Island, the country’s main oil-export base, were reported by an Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps-linked news agency as a US missile attack on an Iranian tanker.

Tasnim reported that the tanker, anchored near Kharg Island, was hit by four projectiles about six nautical miles from the island. It said there were no casualties and that crew members were evacuating.

Earlier, Fars news agency reported that several explosions had been heard in the Persian Gulf near Kharg Island at 11:04 a.m. It said no smoke or flames had been seen in the sky or on the water.

An Iranian small tanker was attacked by a US missile six nautical miles from the island.

The Revolutionary Guard separately said social media were circulating “false reports and claims” that a nuclear facility in Iran’s Isfahan region had been attacked by the United States and Israel. It denied that such an attack had occurred.

Kharg Island handles more than 90% of Iran’s crude oil exports, making it a key logistics hub for the country’s oil trade.
