Iran's Alleged Attacks in Strait of Hormuz: Trump Denounces 'Stupid Violation' of Truce

U.S. President Donald Trump denounced Iran's actions in the Strait of Hormuz, calling them a "stupid violation" of a ceasefire agreement after Tehran allegedly launched at least four drone attacks against vessels. One drone struck the bridge of a costly cargo ship, causing damage.

"Damage was caused, but the ship was able to continue on its way. We shot down three other drones," Trump stated on his social media platform, Truth Social. The UK Maritime Trade Operations (Ukmto) confirmed that a cargo ship hit an object on its starboard side, damaging the bridge. Fortunately, no injuries or negative environmental impacts were reported.

This incident marks the first confrontation since the U.S. and Iran signed a memorandum of understanding to reopen the vital Hormuz maritime route and begin negotiations on Iran's nuclear program. The attack prompted the International Maritime Organization (IMO) to temporarily suspend its plan to evacuate approximately 600 ships from the Strait of Hormuz. Iran has asserted control over this strategic waterway, viewing it as a major bargaining chip in ongoing negotiations.
