Iran's Revolutionary Guards Stop Four Ships in Strait of Hormuz

Iran's Revolutionary Guards announced Saturday that their naval forces intercepted four vessels attempting to pass through the strategic Strait of Hormuz within the past 24 hours. The Guards stated that the ships were using an "illegal and dangerous" route and fired warning shots before the vessels altered their course, according to Iranian state television.

This incident follows a series of recent actions by Iran targeting tankers that use the route along the Omani coast while transiting the Strait of Hormuz. Reports suggest Iran aims to compel vessels to use Iranian territorial waters and pay for safe passage, thereby increasing its control and revenue from the vital waterway.

Meanwhile, Houthi rebels in Yemen, who are supported by Iran, claimed Saturday to have attacked Saudi Aramco oil facilities in the Saudi cities of Jizan and Yanbu on the Red Sea coast. A Houthi military spokesperson, Yahya Saree, stated in a video message that drones and missiles were used in the attacks. Saree also threatened further escalation if Saudi Arabia continues its operations against the rebels, indicating the movement's readiness to "expand its activities and escalate" in the coming hours and days.

The Strait of Hormuz is a critical chokepoint for global oil transport, and any disruption or perceived threat in the region raises concerns about international energy security. The dual actions by Iran and its Houthi allies underscore the ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.
