Iran's Supreme Leader Urges Unity Amid Sanctions, President Says

Iran's President Masoud Pezeshkian revealed that Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has called for "unity and cohesion" as the nation grapples with economic difficulties exacerbated by U.S. sanctions. The emphasis on unity comes at a time when there are apparent divisions within the country's leadership.

Pezeshkian detailed a nearly seven-hour meeting with Khamenei, during which they addressed critical issues such as "people's livelihoods, the state of the market, employment, people's housing," and the challenges posed by U.S. sanctions. The president highlighted Khamenei's strong focus on preventing internal divisions, which he described as a primary target of "the enemy's plans."

This meeting marks only the second time President Pezeshkian has met with Mojtaba Khamenei since the latter's appointment as supreme leader in March, following a U.S.-Israeli strike that killed his father. Khamenei, who is believed to have been injured in the same attack, has not been seen publicly since then. The president stressed that countering division is paramount for the nation's stability and progress.
