Iran targets Gulf nations; OIC, neighbors condemn 'flagrant' attacks

The Middle East is experiencing heightened regional tensions following reports of widespread Iranian attacks targeting several Gulf nations. These actions, allegedly in response to U.S. strikes in Tehran, have drawn sharp condemnation from the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and prompted formal diplomatic protests.

The OIC General Secretariat issued a statement on Sunday strongly denouncing Iranian attacks against Qatar, Oman, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, and Jordan. The organization characterized the strikes as a "flagrant and ongoing violation" of national sovereignty and a breach of good-neighborly principles. The OIC also criticized Iran's continued disruption of international trade and attacks on commercial vessels, deeming these actions violations of international law and the charters of the UN and OIC.

Oman took direct diplomatic action, summoning Iran's Ambassador to Oman, Mousa Farhang, to deliver a formal note of protest. Omani officials expressed deep concern over what they called "irresponsible acts" and demanded that Iran adhere to principles of non-interference, sovereignty, and ethical norms among neighboring nations. The drone strikes reportedly targeted sites in Oman's Musandam and Al Wusta governorates.

The General Secretariat of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation expresses its strong condemnation and denunciation of the Iranian attacks against the Kingdom of Bahrain, the State of Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, the State of Qatar, the Sultanate of Oman and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, which constitute a flagrant and ongoing violation of the sovereignty of these states and a breach of the principles of good-neighbourliness based on mutual respect.

Pakistan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs also voiced "deep concern" over the escalating situation. As a mediator of a relevant Memorandum of Understanding, Pakistan emphasized its support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all regional countries. The ministry urged all parties involved to exercise restraint, pursue de-escalation, and honor international agreements.

The ongoing standoff in the Strait of Hormuz and these recent escalations threaten regional security. The OIC reaffirmed its solidarity with the targeted nations and supported their right to self-defense.
