Iran to Trump: Give up your dreams on Hormuz

Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi has directly challenged U.S. President Donald Trump's assertion that he would declare the Strait of Hormuz "American territory." Gharibabadi responded on social media, stating that the vital waterway cannot be taken by tweets, aircraft carriers, orders, or campaign speeches.

"The Strait of Hormuz belongs to Iran, it was Iran's, it is Iran's, and it will remain Iran's," Gharibabadi declared. He added that the Strait would only close and open under Iran's command. He warned that Iran would continue to impose a blockade in the Strait as long as the U.S. does not accept its "real defeat" and abandon its unrealistic ambitions.

Trump had previously claimed that the U.S. Navy maintained a "full blockade" in the Strait of Hormuz and that he would soon declare it U.S. territory after "completely defeating Iran." Iranian officials have repeatedly stated that the Strait would not reopen if the U.S. interfered with its passage, imposed a naval blockade, or failed to fulfill the terms of a memorandum signed between Tehran and Washington on June 17.

Earlier, Brigadier General Ibrahim Zulfiqari, spokesperson for Iran's Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, which coordinates the country's war efforts, denied Trump's claim. He emphasized that no vessel could pass through the Strait of Hormuz without Iran's permission and supervision.
