Iran War: Revolutionary Guards Say They Attacked US-Linked Tankers in Retaliation for Strikes

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said they had attacked several ships in retaliation for US strikes on Iranian tankers, escalating a fresh exchange of fire between the two countries.

The Guards’ naval forces said they targeted three tankers using what they called an unauthorized route through the Strait of Hormuz, as well as three vessels they described as affiliated with the United States in other areas. The statement appeared on the Guards’ official Telegram channel and warned other ships against attempting to use unauthorized passages.

Earlier, Iran’s central joint military command, Khatam al-Anbiya, had threatened a tougher response against US warships. “The American terrorist army is warned that if the malicious acts, insecurity and harassment of Iranian ships, as well as the naval blockade of Iran, continue, the strikes by the armed forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran against American military vessels in the region will be harsher than before and could expand,” it said.

The United States said it had struck and destroyed three Iranian tankers in response to attempted missile attacks on warships. The incident marked another exchange since hostilities resumed following US raids the previous week.
