Iran warns the US of a “more painful response” after fresh attacks

Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has warned the United States that the rules of the game have changed, promising a tougher response to any new attack on Iran.

“From now on, every attack on Iran’s interests and security will receive a faster, harsher and more painful response,” Ghalibaf said in a Telegram post.

His warning came after renewed military action following a pause through much of August. The US Central Command said on Saturday that it had struck three Iranian tankers after Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps launched ballistic missiles at two US Navy vessels.

Six months after US and Israeli attacks on Iran, the war appears to be stalled. A preliminary ceasefire agreement reached in June collapsed, while diplomatic efforts to restore a peace process have made little progress.

Ghalibaf said Iran’s main battle now extends beyond the military front to production and people’s livelihoods. He identified inflation, unemployment and market management as the country’s main challenges, saying Iranians could tolerate hardship but not poor governance or inaction. Economy Minister Ali Madanizadeh said Tehran plans to respond to US economic pressure through reforms.
