Iraqi PM to visit Iran next week after Washington trip

Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi is set to visit Iran next week, aiming to bolster bilateral relations between the two neighboring countries. The announcement from Iraq's Foreign Ministry comes shortly after Al-Zaidi's significant trip to Washington, where he solidified economic ties with the United States.

During his U.S. visit, Al-Zaidi signed 48 agreements and memorandums of understanding with American companies. He also met with President Donald Trump, who praised Al-Zaidi as a "great leader" and noted the "tremendous chemistry" between them. The leaders agreed to advance a comprehensive strategic economic alliance.

The upcoming visit to Tehran is particularly noteworthy given the ongoing military escalation in the Middle East. Iraq has condemned Iranian retaliatory attacks against several Persian Gulf countries and Jordan. The trip also follows recent deadly attacks on Kurdish-Iranian opposition groups within Iraq's autonomous Kurdistan region.

Iraqi officials stated that the visit will include the signing of several memorandums of understanding aimed at strengthening cooperation and benefiting common interests. The Iraqi Foreign Ministry's deputy minister for bilateral relations, Mohamed Hussein, discussed the visit's agenda with the Iranian ambassador to Baghdad, Kazem al Sadegh.
