Ireti Kingibe wins ADC FCT Senate ticket

Senator Ireti Heebah Kingibe has officially clinched the African Democratic Congress (ADC) party's nomination for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) senatorial race. The announcement followed a primary election that saw Kingibe secure a commanding lead, garnering 17,535 votes against her sole opponent, Mubarak Tijjani, who received 806 votes.

The FCT ADC party secretariat served as the venue for the declaration of results. Abubakar Adamu, the chairman and returning officer for both the senatorial and House of Representatives primary elections, affirmed the outcome. "Having scored the highest number of votes of 17, 535, and the powers conferred on me as the returning officer for the Senate and House of Representative Primary Elections, Senator Ireti Heebah Kingibe is declared winner of the election," Adamu stated.

The primary elections also determined the party's flag bearers for the two Federal House of Representatives seats within the FCT. In the AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency, Bala Iyah emerged victorious with 4,937 votes. He was followed by Yahaya Fatima Goya (2,015 votes) and Ma’aji Johnson Bello (1,546 votes), with Ismaila Ishak Ozigi trailing at 105 votes.

For the Abaji/Gwagwalada/Kwali/Kuje Federal Constituency, Alhassan Salihu secured the party's ticket after obtaining 9,016 votes, defeating his challenger, Khalid A. Haruna, who garnered 2,955 votes. Officials from the Independent National Electoral Commission were present to observe the proceedings and verify the results.

Following his victory, Bala Iyah expressed strong confidence in the ADC's prospects for the 2027 general elections. Iyah emphasized his grassroots connection and extensive political experience, dating back to the June 12th election. "As a grassroots politician, I am ready and I have the capacity because I am not just a novice in politics, that is number one. And I am a great mobilizer in politics, because it’s been a long time since I’ve been in politics. Since the June 12th election, I started my politics. And I want to tell you, I know the terrain of AMAC/BWARI Federal Constituency," he added. He attributed his success to the love and support of his constituents, predicting a "walkover" victory in the general election.
