Irish fighter embarrassed, fight stopped after less than a minute

Conor McGregor's comeback fight at UFC 329 in Las Vegas concluded prematurely, much to the surprise of organizers and spectators. The Irish mixed martial arts star suffered a knee injury in the opening seconds of his bout against Max Holloway. The referee stopped the fight less than a minute after it began due to McGregor's inability to continue.

The 37-year-old McGregor, returning after a five-year hiatus, started the fight aggressively. However, during his first leg kick attempt, he landed awkwardly and injured his knee, losing his balance and falling to the ground. Holloway seized the opportunity, landing punches on the injured fighter. McGregor managed to get back up, but another leg kick attempt caused him to lose his footing again and fall.

Despite evident pain, McGregor attempted to continue. After an exchange of blows, he collapsed again. The injury proved too severe, and after less than a minute of fighting, Conor McGregor could no longer proceed. Referee Mike Beltran determined that McGregor could not safely continue and ended the match.

McGregor expressed his dismay on social media platform X, stating, "The knee is destroyed. I had no injury before the fight. During preparations and right before the fight, I was performing leg kicks without any issues. This happened completely unexpectedly."

McGregor's return was one of the most anticipated events in UFC history. He had not competed since 2021, when he broke his leg during a fight with Dustin Poirier. His comeback had been postponed multiple times due to health issues and other complications. Despite the fight's anticlimactic end, UFC President Dana White reported that the event generated a record 22 million euros in ticket revenue.
