Irish Internet Hotline Designated as 'Trusted Flagger' Under EU Digital Services Act

The Irish Internet Hotline has been officially recognized for its long-standing work in combating illegal online content, receiving the designation of "Trusted Flagger" under the European Union's Digital Services Act (DSA). This significant recognition comes from Comisiún na Meán, Ireland's media regulator.

This new status means that platforms operating within the EU must now prioritize and process notices submitted by the Irish Internet Hotline without undue delay. The designation formalizes the crucial role the hotline plays in identifying and reporting harmful material online.

The designation reflects the expertise and experience our team has developed in identifying and reporting illegal content within our areas of competency.

Established in 1999, the Irish Internet Hotline has dedicated nearly three decades to fighting illegal online content. Its primary focus has been on child sexual abuse material, but its remit extends to other forms of illegal content as well. The organization provides a secure and anonymous channel for the public to report such material.

Mick Moran, CEO of the Irish Internet Hotline, stated that the designation reflects the team's extensive expertise and experience. He emphasized that the "Trusted Flagger" status strengthens their ability to ensure that high-quality reports are acted upon effectively, building on the work they have already been doing for years.
