İsmail Kartal on Transfers After Victory: “We Could Sign an Under-23 Player, but…”

Fenerbahçe coach İsmail Kartal left the door open to further transfer activity after his team beat Samsunspor 2-0 away in the third week of the Trendyol Süper Lig.

Kartal praised Samsunspor as an organized side that wanted to win rather than simply defend and disrupt play. He said Fenerbahçe created several chances in the first half but failed to put enough players into the penalty area. Oğuz’s goal after a strong dribble gave the visitors greater control, he said.

The coach added that Fenerbahçe had worked since the start of the season on wing play and connections among the fullbacks, midfield positions and forwards. He said the team used those patterns in the first half, although it could have scored more against a Samsunspor side he described as difficult, energetic and well organized.

We can sign an under-23 player, but because of the quota, we cannot make a transfer outside the under-23 category.

Kartal also discussed Oppong, who had completed only one light training session with the team and had recently lacked training. “Anything can happen in the transfer market,” he said. Fenerbahçe can sign an under-23 player, he added, but its quota rules prevent a transfer outside that category.
